Darius V. Echeverria
Professor, historian, and scholar all describe Darius Echeverria, a faculty member of the Latino and Hispanic Caribbean Studies and History departments at Rutgers University.
Since 2006, he has served Rutgers and taught a wide range of courses in both departments. He also has acted as a Visiting Scholar at Montclair State University, where he teaches as well as sits on the Latin American and Latino Studies Program's advisory board. Darius Echeverria also assumes the role of Visiting Assistant Professor at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, where he instructs students in courses that reflect the U.S. Latino/a experience. Darius Echeverria has acted as a guest lecturer at a number of higher education institutions, including St. Cloud State University, the University of Pennsylvania, the Metropolitan State College of Denver, the University of Massachusetts Boston, Kansas State University, and Villanova University. Prior to his teaching career, Darius Echeverria served in a number of government positions in Trenton, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C. He acted as a key figure in investigations that ensured programs remained in compliance with state laws, created and implemented scholarship programs, prepared issue briefs, and authored newsletters and legislative proposals. In New Jersey's Washington Office, Darius Echeverria spearheaded media activities in his subject area and worked to get initiatives passed and resolve student matters in the higher education arena. Darius Echeverria also served the White House, the State of New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, and the State of New Jersey Office of the Governor, where he dedicated himself to promoting gender, economic, ethnic, and religious diversity programs. Darius Echeverria attended Rutgers, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in History and graduated magna cum laude. Subsequently, Dr. Echeverria earned a full scholarship and fellowship to Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he completed his Master's degree and Ph.D. in History and graduated summa cum laude. While at Temple University, he served on the Office of Judicial Affairs University Disciplinary Committee and gained a host of experience in resolving student and faculty conduct issues. In 2013, Darius Echeverria's book, tentatively titled Aztlán Arizona, is scheduled for publication by The University of Arizona Press. The book deals with a period in history during the Vietnam War when Arizona Latinos led the Chicano Movement sparked by the political, social, and cultural changes that occurred during the time.
